The UC Santa Barbara Isotope Geochemistry Facility is a research laboratory that specializes in the analysis of radiogenic isotopes in geological and environmental samples. It houses a thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS), trace metal clean room laboratory, and associated supporting equipment. Our goal is to provide the highest quality data to the community at competitive prices. Ongoing research projects focus on the analysis of mantle-derived samples (basalts, granites, andesites, ijolites, syenites, carbonatites, peridotites, etc.) from ocean islands and mid-ocean ridges to help constrain the geodynamic evolution of the Earth, but we have analyzed materials as diverse as shales, limestones, and barites (and we are happy to analyze other materials upon request). Isotope analysis of Sr, Nd, and Pb are our forte, but we are open to inquiries for measuring other isotope systems.
